Being Your Best in 2010
Happy 2010! Last year was a year of laying the foundation for our movement of transforming work and life so everyone can be their best. I learned a lot about myself last year and this year promises to stretch me even further. I’m super excited about that!
I have been wondering about you and your intentions for 2010, specifically how you’ll anchor in more deeply to being your best. Last year a client told me she had selected a word of the year to guide her throughout the year. She got the idea from Christine Kane (www.christinekane.com). Today I read a blog by Chris Brogan who chooses 3 words each year. Read his blog here: http://www.chrisbrogan.com/my-3-words-for-2010/#comment-27738450.
Last year my word was recriprocal, and it served me very well. Last week I began thinking about my word for 2010. I decided to let go of trying to figure it out and just trust God for my word. The strangest thing happened. I had a dream and the word, enamor, came to me in my sleep. I can’t remember the details, but when I woke up, the word was firmly in my mind.
Now, mind you, I have vivid, sometimes strange dreams, and I have never had a dream where a word was given to me. Also, as I get older, I find that my memory fails me when I try to remember certain words, but I easily recall this word throughout the day. Also, not surprisingly enamor is not part of my normal conversations.
So, although I don’t know if I will add more words to my word of the year, I am definitely keeping enamor. I look forward to playing with my word of the year, peeling it back like an onion, to help me be my best and help others do the same.
What do you think about choosing a word or words for 2010? Take a look at Christine’s video on her blog and/or read Chris Brogan’s blog post and see if choosing a word(s) is something you might want to participate in this year. And be sure to let me know. I’m planning to write about my word at least monthly if not more often throughout the year. I’d love to support you in your word choice.
Many blessings to you and those you love in 2010! May you feel love in a big way (enamor)…

One more thing that just came to me is that if you decide to select a word or words for the year, consider using the Energy Map as a creative tool.
Vote:How funny! I had just written my weekly intention blog post about choosing a theme word for 2010 and then opened my email to find the info about this blog post. Talk about synchronicity!
I’ll share both my word and the intention I created for it.
My theme word for 2010 is discernment. My statement of intention is “As I step into the lifestream of 2010, I easily and effortlessly discern whether I will say a joyful “YES!” to what will move me closer to my big vision, or a “thank-you, but no, thank you” to that which will not serve me. And so it is.”
Vote:Hi Katherine,
I love it when synchronicity happens. Thank you for sharing your word and intention with us – what you wrote is wonderful!
Interestingly, your word fits with mine quite nicely. I went on a walk after I submitted my post and thought more about all the ways I can use “enamor” to guide me this year. One of the ways was discerning when I am not enamored. In that case, I would know that this is not a relationship or situation I will invest in.

Vote:Here’s a great video (Two Simple Questions That Can Change Your Life in 2010) by Dan Pink: http://www.danpink.com/.
The 1st question is, “What is your sentence?” The 2nd question is “Are you better today than yesterday?”
Does that 2nd question sound familiar? It’s what we talk about all the time in the IAM Learning Community. It’s why we’re here. What an adventure!
Vote:Hey Diane – thanks for this blog post! I love it! I haven’t come up with a word yet. I feel like I’m still recovering from the holidays, orienting myself into 2010. I know that for me, in winter, I need (and I mean deeply need) some down time and sometimes I think my energy just gears down to make sure I get this down time. Kind of like a tree that looses all of it’s leaves in winter, my energy just naturally turns inward toward my roots. So I’m looking forward to my word and my orientation to clarify as we move further into the year. Thanks for your inspiration! And Katherine – you too! I’m going to let your word and intention for the year inspire and energize me!

I think my word for 2010 is “purpose.” Here is the definition: “A result or effect that is intended or desired; an intention.” As in, is what I am doing right now something that I consciously intended? I want to focus my energies on doing things that are meaningful to me. These might be big things, such as building new community for myself or finding a place to volunteer. But on an everyday basis, it will be little things, such as choosing to do yoga or writing or making a garden rather than doing purposeless activities (like playing video games).
Vote:Shannon,
Purpose is such a great word! Thanks for sharing it with us. I am working on becoming more conscious too – in every aspect of my life. This is a challenge for me as for years I have been a super multi-tasker!
Keep us updated with your progress. I’d love to know how you’re doing.

Vote:I found my word! When I wasn’t looking for it … I was thinking about the word ‘joy’ which has special meaning for me because my best friend / Mom is named Joyce and my middle name is Joyce. I was thinking of my Grandparents, who I was very close to, who named my Mom and how they started this focus on ‘joy’. I imagined them rejoicing when my Mom was born – and there was the word: rejoice.
I looked up the meaning. Of course it means to be joyful and glad. It also means ‘to enjoy the possession of’ which reminds me that if I can be an open channel, what I imagine and desire with my deepest creative and loving energies, is a done deal. I am in possession of joy and my desires now. Laaa!

Vote:Karen,
Isn’t that great when a word just comes to you? How fun! I love your word, rejoice. It is so you. I can’t remember if I told you before that I have an aunt named Joyce. She has always been so sweet to me & when I was younger my family called me “Little Joyce” because I looked so much like her.
Look forward to hearing more from you this year about your word and what fun you’re having with it!
